Herman Asteroid was spotted in London last year. He was sipping cold beer
by the riverside in Hammersmith. He was on his way to
Khartoum in the Sudan, a dry country with an average temperature
of 40 degrees. He was reportedly attempting to drink enough to last him
for two years in the space of a few hours. He was armed with a Diplomatic Passport. What his mission is, no one
seems to know. During a former sojourn
in Azerbaijan, he penned the lyrics for another classic rock song, a hymn
of the millennium, We Want Your Money, for the Carpettes' third
album,
Fair play to 'em.

Update from Herman Asteroid
Herman
wrote to us recently (1999):
"I have recently been
informed that my vast fan base has set up a Homage Page to Mr. Asteroid,
a fact which was most gratifyingly surprising.
Just for an update, Mr.
Asteroid is alive and well and living in a brothel in the Caucasus
Mountains. ... the record company ... said [that his music] was that it
was an interesting mix of Ian Dury and somebody else I've forgotten:
they added that a payment of two hundred ackers would guarantee a
place on their free LP. Also there's even more stuff knocking around
somewhere, including a paean to the Golden Girl Club, a brothel in Meard
Street." |
